I was raised in a middle class family in Portage, Michigan. My plans as a teenager were to be an automobile designer. After one semester in automotive engineering at Western Michigan University, I transferred to the art department. My primary interests were in the areas related to three dimensional design. I then went on to earn a MA in Sculpture at W.M.U.
Following graduation, I had numerous employment experiences, including working briefly as a clay modeler at Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, and as a high school art instructor for one year in Mendon, Michigan. Ultimately I became a psychiatric social worker, involved with community mental health for 30 years. I have designed and constructed 4 homes. 3 automobiles, and 2 sailing crafts. In 2003, I returned to my roots in sculpture. From 2005 to 2008 I was involved with creating theatre sets for Interlochen Center for the Arts.
In 2005 I had the good fortune of having several sculptures purchased by a generous benefactor, and I purchased a studio and residence in Interlochen, MI. Since that time I have worked full time in creating public art.
At 73 years of age I have been blessed with the ability to re-invent myself on several occasions. I have enjoyed two marriages that ended in divorce, and I have two amazing daughters, and two grandchildren. I am a fortunate man to be able to do, in my seventies, what I dreamt of doing in my twenties.
